Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on the 24th of August 1972 at Long Beach California. DuVernay was inspired to follow her passion of art by DuVernay's aunt Denise when she was a child. DuVernay toured Selma in the summer and was inspired to create a film about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay earned her Saint Joseph High School diploma in Lakewood California. She went to the University of California Los Angeles to obtain degrees in English in addition to African American Studies. DuVernay developed an interest in broadcast journalism as a student. She began her career as an intern at CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was told to take a look at the junk of the home of a juror. Following her disappointment with journalistic work by the assignments she was handed and deciding to go after an interest in public relations. DuVernay was hired right after graduating from college as an assistant publicist in a small studio. The DuVernay Agency is her first public relations agency.
